Meta tags are not a magic solution.

The most valuable feature of meta tags is that it gives you some ability to control how your web pages are described by search engines. They have only a minor effect on gaining a top spot on a search engine. It’s debatable if they have any affect at all.

There are a lot of functionality in the Meta tags; They can prevent pages from being indexed if you don’t want them listed in search engine. They allow you to give the search engine a description for the page to show on the search.  The ability to provide a description that is displayed when you show up in a search engine result can powerful in getting the message you want to your potential customers.

Meta keywords aren’t what they once were. Many search engines such as Google now ignore them. However, a small number of search engines still use them. It doesn’t hurt your Google rank and it can help you elsewhere, so we recommend that you use them.
